Funny story, you’d think the Rosetta Stone would be the first thing you go to upon arriving at the British Museum and heading to the Egyptian wing. And in fact, when you walk through the doors, it’s right there. However, I was doing my classic wonderment thing where I look up! I look around! I can’t stop spinning around! and we completely missed the Rosetta Stone. We were about to move on to the Greek exhibit when we remembered that we were missing it.
Luckily Jennifer spent a year in the UK a couple years back and could help us find it again haha. It’s really amazing how important this one largish rock is.

Me to friends: “Guys…can I be a tourist? I promise I’ll be through my tourist phase in a couple weeks.”
Them: “…Okay.”
Result: Me and a red telephone box!

Londoning

Hello all! I’ve finally decided to make a tumblr, although mostly so I can put up pictures from London that facebook won’t really care about, but you all might actually want to see haha.

I’ve been in London since Wednesday, and although I haven’t done a lot of touristy stuffs (I’ve mostly been buying necessities that were impossible to pack into my suitcase, and visiting some pubs with new friends), London is incredible. Every step you take brings you to a different world, all the buildings look different (unlike in New York), and none of the streets make any sense together. It’s wonderful!

Fun fact: Every few blocks, the streets change names. It makes for very confusing wanderings, and I realized (/realised) that the street maps, which are convenient, do not state this on the map. I always need to “Look Right,” but that hasn’t been hard to adjust to. I haven’t met too many Brits yet, because we haven’t started classes and I’m in the International Student Orientation Programme (yes, spelled that way tumblr. stop correcting British spelling) still, but I’ve been learning how to dance like a Dutch man (answer: crazily), and what words in English sound like swear words in Turkish (answer: “peach” = “bastard”, “got” = “ass”).
